FROM CHIPS TO COFFEE
Why we quit our jobs and moved back to India

We spent much of our adulthood in the USA. We had comfortable jobs and were blessed to have the usual NRI life.
Yet, we longed for home and the food, as most NRIs do. We longed for our morning filter coffee. But we never had the time or patience to learn how to use the classic metal filter and get an authentic brew.
We saw our friends use espresso machines and moka pots to try to brew filter coffee. We knew and they knew that that wasn’t the taste they wanted.
Having built high-performance hardware for close to two decades and having seen advanced coffee machines in the West, we knew we could build a coffee machine for our kind of coffee.
We quit our jobs and moved back to Chennai to build ByteChef.
PRODUCT BUILDING
Our Journey Bringing ByteChef to the market

We wanted ByteChef to brew authentic-tasting South Indian filter coffee, with a hot-water path that doesn’t bring hot water into contact with plastic. We added a built-in timer to make it easier to plan your morning brew. Keeping the footprint was a key priority since most kitchens are counter space limited. The compact, 12 cm-wide design fits comfortably in a small kitchen. We partnered with a leading industrial design firm, D-Cube Designs, to transform our ideas into a beautiful design.

VISION
South Indian filter coffee deserves a place among the world’s great brewing traditions
We believe South Indian filter coffee deserves a place among the world’s great brewing traditions. Our vision is to make it easier for more people to discover and enjoy. First across India, and eventually around the world while celebrating the rich culture and craft behind every cup.
